I would like to know what peoples thoughts and feelings are about this.

I think its great news, hopefully we can get both clubs working together and are juniors can play for this new club to gain experience of open age rugby before going to the 1st team. Its what i done with the anvils and i believe you gain so much experience from doing so. good luck to the new club.

The way you describe the situation is how IT SHOULD BE.However you will note from the article the phrases "new breakaway club" and "no ties with ORUFC". I cannot come to terms with former players setting up a rival club in these troubled times.,much as I see the vital need for an influx of amateur players. This new venture should have been embarked upon under the banner of ORUFC ( who themselves will evolve into an amateur club soon, surely) .Orrell just cannot afford to have a wedge driven through it at this time in it's history.

The creation of new "amateur" team as a separate entity is not a shock to members who attended the special meeting a few months back. Perhaps the progress on its creation is a shock though. As a resident of Orrell, a member of the Orrell Club, and a supporter of ALL Rugby Union in Orrell I'm a bit disappointed that I found out about this via a newspaper article. Anyway - There is now an official response to recent newspaper reports from Jim Lloyd (see orrell-rugby.com/newsroom/news.php?report=151206). I support the idea of the amateur club, but if Rugby Union is to survive in Orrell then, even if though they are separate entities, they MUST be united. You cannot afford to split the loyalties of the, already, too small base of fans and volunteers because some of them will (and have) just stop supporting the club altogether. Martin

I thank Jim for his comprehensive account of the sequence of sad events since Whelan took control of our affairs. However as the original account ( containing a fair bit of misinformation) was in the public domain.i.e.Wigan Observer, should not the official reply from the club ( see JL's message) also be published in the Wigan Observer to let the public know the impossible circumstances under which ORUFC are having to operate.? This would put the record straight and glean much needed public support for the Club.

For the record I did NOT describe the man in question as "Weasel".That was edited by this board's administrators. I do not believe we do our cause any good by this kind of insult.

This board has a system for automatically replacing unwanted words with something else - aimed at preventing offensive language. It would appear that a particular word has been set to be automatically replaced by the word Weasel.
I am sorry about this - you are right that it probably doesn't help - and we should not really be editing posts in such a way.
I will amend the offending part of the system (if I can).

I 'm sure who originally set up the edit meant well but, as said,I feel we let ourselves down by name-calling

Problem was last committee left us without soul and what worries me we could end up like that again that is the way it's looking everyone needs a reason to be a member of a club and at present there is nothing but matches we need more I realise things are going on in the background but nothing seems to move forward

Hopefully it wont be a totally amateur club, just the players. Maybe the original "Orrell" would still be a force in rugby if the admin side had been a more professional and less self important bunch who eventually ruined a great club!

Orrell has to sell its self if the club is in financial problems then why doesnt it sell its self it worked for peterbourgh (THE POSH) they were abotu to go into administration but due to them having a up close and personal tv show there now one of the richest teams in the football league. its worth looking at reality tv is a major think in the UK and people love to see inside sports and this is a perfect chance to gain some well needed publicity and extra funds if we have a tv show or even just a 10 minute slot on the rugby club people will want to sponsor us and it will bring loads more money into the club it has to be looked at if this club is to survive we can be a team in national rugby and have a great junior team. I'm sure chris is the right person to help the 1st do this but no matter what you need sponsorship and to get that we need to let everyone know about the rugby team once were public we will het plenty of sponsorship just like the posh have done i hope this is taken forward as i want this club to survive

Pricey,
Thanks for your comments. There are many with the same feelings as yourself and we are working behind the scenes on promoting the last few matches at EHR as much as possible, in particular the LAST match on 21st April.
We always welcome any ideas people may have, not just for these last few matches but for the short, medium and long term future of the club.
We should all be ambassadors for our club and promote it whenever we can. We should always be on the lookout for sponsors, advertisers, players coaches, etc, etc whenever we talk to people.
If anyone does have any (positive) suggestions on any aspect of the club, don't keep them to yourselves, please feel free to email me at jonbuer@orrell-rugby.com and I'll be sure to pass them on to the right people.
Thanks and see you tomorrow ??

I like the idea of going to TV we need to think ambitious to turn this situation around. We can either sit back and fizzle out or put together a group of energetic and enthusiastic people to generate income. People will sponsor us if we have exposure like that. Orrell remains a big name and the fact that it is clinging onto survival only adds to the public interest.
If we did it we needn't abuse our former paymaster, people want to see what is going on now.
Bet it doesn't go anywhere though!

Is there anything i can do to make this tv idea go forward. This is what the club needs and i want argubly one of the biggest clubs outside of the premiership to survive. If there is way i can help take this idea forward just gis a shout.
