why are orrell playing players with no previous ties to the club when there are (former)scolt who would jump at the chance to play. these lads are capable to play at this level and would in certain positions be better than the current players. name but a few john hyland, chris smith, jack smith, patrick horrigan, richard stacy, chis hignett. and these are just back who have proved able to play at 1st team level.

This once again is a case of no progression through to the first team hopefully this will change under the next regime their have been many colts over the past few years we should never have lost hopefully we once again will become a team of local youngsters and build back up to a reasonable strength through the colts and junior section but there will have to be a big push on recruitment for the future growth of union playing youngsters

I don't pretend to know the answer to this valid question. However, I can only assume that Chris Chudleigh, for whom I have plenty of time and admiration, was unaware of these ex colts' availability as he only arrived on the scene this season. Surely the onus rests on Colts, and ex Colts, organizers to bring these lads to the 1st team coach's attention.I imagine Chris would have welcomed them with open arms had he known they were available but ,as in other areas of the club, sadly people have operated independently with the left hand not always knowing what the right is up to.

I was aware of most of the names listed by onlooker and four have played first team rugby this year. For their own various reasons however they have not carried on. I know that saturday jobs have had an influence, as earlier in the season when we were flush for players these lads were only playing on Sundays, so made other commtiments. I rang around several of them in Feb and Jack Smith turned out for us, he has since stopped coming, for what reason I don't know. All of them know when we train, and also that there are opportunities for them to play, as it is well known amongst the Colts my attitude towards playing them. Two have contacted me and I expect to see them at training on Thursday for consideration for Saturday.
In short we are looking elsewhere because the local lads are or have not available.

As a player who has come through the colts four years back and has now gone on to play a higher level of both Rugby League and Rugby union I believe that it is ok to say, 'throw the colts in' and that 'they are good enough'. However they are not. some may well develop into better players but for this season they were and are not good enough or experienced enough.

There are colts players that are certainly good enough to play for the 1st's. Just because players left the snr colts team and therefore made them look poor. This was due to the team being filled in for a short while with young and inexperienced players. This does not mean there are not very skilled individuals there that have played at County and North standard exceptionally well. If they are given the chance to play with better players, their talent will be shown.

Gandolf - was it not better to try and blood some of us colts for the future rather than buy people who have been before and cae for the retirement season etc???
