I have been out of the country for some time and did not realise the state the club is in. It saddens me to say that unless the club becomes what it was and should have remained - a club for everyone then it will disappear. The threads asking for all to be kept informed should not be ignored - what happened to the minutes of committee meetings being published? Given that you have such a good website why not use it!!
Before I left the UK I worked all over the country and had opportunity to visit some great clubs who play in local leagues and are thriving as they have made themselves an integral part of the community. It will surely be the case that Orrell will have to do the same if they wish to survive. There seems to be some who are working towards this goal and my congratulations go out to them. There also seem to be far to many who are just looking for someone else to blame (perhaps not unjustifiably!!).
I will be visiting EHR when I come back for a holiday and will be as sad as many others to see this chapter of the clubs history end. But it is just that a chapter and now is the time, if you all can maintain some impetus, to begin a new one.
The feeling I get from reading the forums is that there is two ways to go;
1 Keep looking to blame everyone else and let the club fold.
2 Create a 'new' Orrell that is based on club rugby that feeds itself from its junior section.
I would love to see Orrell start again even if it means dropping further and further down the leagues until the next generations of players start to come through. Even if this does not make Orrell into the force we once were we at least stay true to the ethos that took us to the giddying heights of losing the title on a drop goal.
Best of luck which ever way the club goes.
