Tarleton Junior Colts v Orrell Junior Colts
Halbro Colts League Plate Semi Finals Finals
The boot of Mike Hughes ensured that Orrell would come away with the spoils of this fiercely contested game. With Orrell failing to settle at the start of this game giving away 3 penalties in the first 20 minutes of the game which Tarleton opted to kick missing all 3 although 1 did rebound of the post but they were to prove costly in the end and it was Orrell who put the first score on the board with a great individual try by Grant as he picked up a loose ball and avoided all attempts to stop him with a great individual try which Hughes duly converted then at the other end of the pitch Grant and Bond made excellent try saving tackles to take it in at half time with Orrell leading.
Half time Tarlton 0 Orrell 7
With Tarleton playing to their strengths there wasn’t much space for Orrells wingers to use their pace but when Armstrong was finally released into space he powered over the line for Orrell’s 2nd try Tarleton then got their 1st try and conversion of the match the game then entered a kicking phase as each team tried to gain the advantage. The game swung Orrells way when Halsall tore through the Tarleton defence to score under the sticks giving Hughes an easy kick for the 2 points Orrell now led 7 to 19. But Tarleton were undeterred and hit back hard and with Cunliffe receiving a Knock to his wound and having to leave the field the game swung back in Tarleton’s favour and they powered the ball through to score and convert. With only 5 points in it could have gone either way then Orrell are awarded a penalty which Hughes converts with ease and with a 8 point gap and about four minutes to go Tarleton get the try they have been after but fail to convert but with time running out Orrell hold on to take victory how costly were the missed penalties for Tarleton.
Tarlton 19 Orrell 22
Man of the match was awarded to Woodthingy although Grant Presho and Bond all had good shouts to be awarded it.
Orrell now play Bowden in the final at Sandbach on 26th April
