Halbro Colts League Cup Ashton On Mersey V Orrell (Junior colts) Again Orrell struggled to get a team together with only 13 players we travelled to Ashton On Mersey for the first round of the cup knowing if we played with the same spirit as last week even with a shortage of players we could win. The game started in Sleeting Rain and first blood went to Ashton when the defence fell asleep and failed to clear but Orrell roared back with some great play and fine passing allowing G Houghton in for his first try in Orrell colours. Then just as Orrell celebrate taking the lead Hargreaves is injured and takes no further part in the game so we are back to 12 players for the second week running but Orrell are in commanding form with Armstrong down the wing and Presho through the middle Orrell take a commanding lead at half time. Aston on Mersey 10 Orrell 21 The second half Orrell pile more pressure on themselves by having a player sin binned and Ashton On Mersey claw the score back to 20 to 28 but with the tackles going in hard and fast it is Orrell who eventually turn out winners thanks again to the man of the match performance by Mathew Farrimond although nearly all the team played a part in securing victory and going into the draw for the next round of the cup. If they carry on playing this way the cup will have their name on it. Final Score Ashton On Mersey 20 Orrell 36 Man of the Match Mathew Farrimond Report By Colin Grant
