Orrell RUFC v Kendal RUFC Junior Colts
Sunday 18th Jan 2009
It was Orrell’s first match of the 2009 having not played since before Christmas and they were hoping to get off to a good start. Having played Kendal away from home earlier in the season and been narrowly defeated 10-5 Orrell were out for revenge. Having won the toss Orrell opted to play with the wind to their backs in the first half and it seemed to pay of straight away with 5 minutes gone Orrell had a scrum and Presho received the ball to power over the line which Hughes easily converted. Then the rest of the 1st half seemed to be played in the middle of the park wit neither team making any impression on the other. A couple of Orrell attacks petered out due to players not seeing the final pass and holding on to the ball to long, Armstrong did go over in the corner but was deemed to have lost control of the ball. Kendal were awarded 2 penalties against Orrell 1 of which was converted. Then at the stroke of half time Kendal secured their first try to take the lead going into the 2nd half 7 -10
The second half stared pretty much as most of the first half had been played with neither side gaining much advantage over the other but Kendal were the stronger team in the 2nd half with the wind at their backs they manage to score 2 more tries and 1 conversion. With the Orrell forwards lacking the power to match Kendal and unable to bring in the pace of the backs in to the game .Allthough Orrell lost there were several contenders for man of the match Hughes, Bond, Whitfield and Presho the award finally going to John Presho.
Final Score Orrell 7 Kendal 22
Tries Presho
Conversions Hughes
Man of the match John Presho
Team:- Whitfield (Capt), Cunliffe, Farimond, Bond, Houghton, Hughes, Grant, Willthingy, Mullan, Rogers Halsall, Hargreaves, Jones, Hornby, Presho, Armstrong, Watts Rothwell.
