I wanted to inject some life into the forums and saw a similar vote on the Sale Sharks website, thought it was an interesting one to discuss..........

I am a Munster supporter and we have a proud tradition of silence during a home or opposition kick, something which isn't always replicated by the opposing team but in the whole most teams do it.
I did overhear at the recent Munster Vs All Blacks match a couple of fellas talking and one mentioned how the total silence could possibly more off-putting than crowd noise, an interesting angle on it I thought.
My own personal view, although I do respect 100% the silence during kicks, is that these players are professionals. One of the first discussions on the RFU Level 1 course is - "What is the difference between a technique and a skill?"
The answer is that a skill is a technique performed under pressure, this is what separates an Elite level player from Joe Bloggs on the terrace, we can probably all kick the ball to some extent but only the top level can do this under pressure and to my mind that should include having 20,000 booing you if thats how the match is going. These players wouldnt be at that level if they couldn't shut out everything around them and concentrate solely on the match.
As a result I think any kicker at that level should be able to deal with it regardless. However Rugby is a game for traditions and this is one I dont think should die............

Its all part of the banter between teams when you shout at other teams yeh respect them but that should be after the match during the match its complete rivalry
