Tyldsley 30* - 0 Orrell
Anyone who has ever visited Tyldsley will know what im saying when I talk about the conditions (weather, not the pitch which was excellent) which were terrible. No excuses however Tyldsley had to suffer the same wind and rain as us.
Playing against the run-away group leaders was always going to be tough and Tyldsley proved they deserve to be where they are. Our plans were disrupted through illness and a number of changes in the pack and at Scrum Half.
The first half started well with some resolute defending keeping play around the middle of the park for the first 15 minutes. Orrell started to lose out at set pieces, especially in the scrum. Inexperience at Scrum-Half causing Orrell to lose a number on the head and an excellent blind-side run from a 5 meter scrum let Tyldsley in for their first try of the game.
The rest of the first half Orrell stuggled to get hands on the ball and as Tyldsley grew in confidence they started to penetrate the Orrell Defence. Set pieces again resulting in lost possession.
During the second half the issues with the scrum were sorted and Orell again began winning possession. Tyldsley however came out fighting and some excellent running from their standout Prop resulted in a number of tries.
A disappointing result personally considering the way the team played against Sedgley last weekend but all credit to Tyldsley who fully deserved their victory and top of the group status.
