Having thought about things from Wednesday night and read JonB's rather long post (I did have to get some physio afterwards) I think it would be a good idea for the "Volunteers" to meet up more regularly.
My suggestion is that we get together in a warm Pub in Orrell one night during the week before a home game.
Of course the term "Volunteer" is a loose one - so anyone could turn up. This could hopefully act as a part of the "offthepitch" team building that JonB was referring to.
I suggest Tuesday 26th Sept. If anyone wants to suggest a venue then please feel free. I don't tend to drink in Orrell so I don't really know the pubs very well.
Of course if we had our own clubhouse - this would be easy to arrange...

I think that's a bloody good idea actually Martin, above all else we can co-ordinate jobs etcetera a lot more easily.
I think the Robin Hood or The Station would be good places to meet, both are within minutes of Edge Hall Road too.

Good call Mr S... Joe, what d'ya reckon about meeting at the Bird I'th Hand?? We could take a sneeky peek at the guys training whilst having a pint at the same time.....either way I'm easy (as the wife would agree) It's in my diary either way....

Just read my previous post again on this subject and by 'sneeky peek' at the players, I merely meant see how training was coming along. There were no backdoor burglin' connotations whatsoever honest !!

I'm sure all the Orrell Pubs will accept the pink pound so you'll be OK... and we won't tell anyone until you're ready to come out...

In general I think it's a good idea that volunteers meet informally now and again, if only to act as a sounding board for fund-raising and social events.
Unfortunately next Tuesday (26th) is not good for us - we're helping to relaunch Farnworth Little Theatre's Youth Group - and Paul W is on holiday. All of this means that the Bolton branch will, sadly, be absent on this occasion.
The Robin Hood would probably be our preferred location for the next one as we know the beer's good; will have to take advice from Duncan and Paul as to the Bird as last time I went I'd already had more than enough wine ....

Just a thought but is there any way one of you computer experts could design an information flyer that can be accessed via this site printed off by voulenteers at home or work and delivered prior to home matches, I get the feeling there are a lot of potential fans who may just require a gentle push to come and watch, as I was myself.
If you do, I'll cover the new estate in Orrell.
I being the wife that is.

The Robin Hood seems to be the popular choice (not sure where it is but i'll find it).
I'll be there at about 8pm. Hopefully some of you can make it...

Did anything come out of the volunteers' meeting? Or did it simply become the proverbial p**s-up?

Chris...the Volunteers meeting was postponed I had to go and do other club related things up at John Rigby, you couldn't make it, Paul is in what seems like week 8 of his holiday and MartinS was the only other one who had acknowledged the meeting, so I called him and told him either not to bother or be prepared to drink alone. He said he may still go as he was used to drinking alone, being a man with no friends We'll sort summat out this Saturday and all put the date in our diaries then we can all attend the pi** up meeting

Actually my intention was more of a social than a meeting anyway - but I am clearly unable to organise a PU in a brewery... well pub...
Looks like I just picked the wrong night... anyone got any better suggestions for next time?

Jon and myself will be attending something of a seminar for 'Volunteer Co-ordinators' organised by the RFU next Tuesday evening. We'll see what comes of that and whether or not we learn anything - I'm sure to!
I would suggest a meeting sometime the following week? 'The Bird i'th Hand' would seem to be the best venue as there's a little more room than in the 'Robin Hood' but, personally, wouldn't mind either way. I suppose we should also consider 'The Station' - the ale's not as good but as it's to be our new unofficial clubhouse perhaps we should support the landlady there?

Good luck with the Seminar - will it tell you how to retrieve lost items... ...like those 6 deducted points we lost?
