Well...at 53-28 it wasn't the result we were looking for today but we are again able to take a lot of positives from the match.
It turned out to be our performance in the first 20 minutes of the first half and the first 5 minutes of the second that lost it for us in the end. We spent very little time the oppositions half and failed to make tackles we really should have made, at crucial times. We came back into the game toward half time stepping up our pace and making some crunching tackles, better possession and keeping the ball moving instead of giving it away by kicking unnecessarily.
The second half was much better with some outstanding individual performances. It was very evident that the guys want success badly and I have no doubt that they will be tasting victory next Saturday if they can stay focused and play for 80 minutes the way they did for the last 30 today.
I can only apologise for not knowing everyone's names at this stage and if we had the players profiles on the website (which I know are coming very soon) I would name those who I thought played out of their skins today.
The main positives that have to be focused on from today are:
1. We looked stronger as a team for the majority of the match as opposed to a group of 15 individuals.
2. We come out with our first point of the season (unless you count the 4 we got last week according to the BBC ).
3. The 4 tries we scored were all converted...and a special congratulations to Chris for that excellent achievement, it must give you confidence ;D
4. We kicked less on the whole and used the ball wisely, which paid obvious dividends with tries scored.
There's probably loads more which people can add but I'm on Stella now and my memory is beginning to fade already
Well done to young Waney, who again played like a terrier and never gave up the chase and who played in the 2nd half just as good as in the first despite being unwell and that's how much these guy's care!!
Thanks to the team also for recognising the fans who made the trip out to support you today. There were quite a few of us there and I think that we made more noise than the Cleck fans
I'm certainly getting a lift up to EHR next week so that I can have a few beers with the team after the match to celebrate what I'm convinced will be a win.
One more thing while I'm on, for those who haven't fallen asleep yet....one thing I have really noticed about this team is the camaraderie amongst the players and thats a great thing to see.
Well done lads, keep it up...see you next week if not before!!
