What will happen next year when we don't have a ground? Can anyone tell us what people are doing to solve this problem. This is a disgrace, Orrell are a great club and being forced out of the ground they have always played on is a disgrace. More needs to be done about this issue and everyone should be working together! Also, there has been no 2nd team for a while, I'm not sure why I wonder if someone else has the answer? I am aware that the South African boys are due to fly home soon and I am concerned about where this will leave the club, will we actually be able to put a team out? Reading the other postings, I feel that we should all join forces and out Dave Whealen publically about the apalling way Orrell Rugby club have been treated! I am sure he would not want this and it would not do his professional reputation any good. After all, he is supposed to be a supporter of all sport (hence JJB sports)!! Please show your support and comment further.

Jim, Please be assured that there is a lot going on behind the scenes, particularly with regards the remainder of the season and our last few home matches, which are also our last few matches at EHR after 57 years. We do intend to make the most of the fact that it is our last few games at EHR and use the opportunity to promote the club. We do have to make sure though that we are promoting the club positively. We can use current media attention to draw in a few more spectators and to generate some much needed cash to give us a healthy start to next season....wherever we may be playing. For now though I would ask everyone to talk about Orrell in a positive light and confirm that next season is actually a new start, without any outside influences from multi-millionaires who may bare a grudge. Next season we will be in control of our own destiny and we have to all come together and lend our support and help no matter how small. Next season is a long way off and there is much to be done before then. For now though, please all ensure that you come to ALL remaining home matches, bring as many friends as you can, buy a burger or a pie and most of all....remember to spread the word that Orrell RUFC is by no means dead....in fact we're looking forward to the future !!! One other point to remember is that next season will be our 80th Anniversary !!!......something worth celebrating, don't you think

There are plans being put in place for next season as we speak - but I think we'll have to be patient for a little longer. At least work is going on now and we are not waiting until the end of the season.
I know there are discussions with people about our home for next season, and I know others are working on the team for next season.
Regarding a 2nd Team - I suspect that this will be given serious thought for next season. We obviously need a team for senior Colts to step up to when they finish being senior Colts. ...and I'm sure you Colts and Juniors do want to stay with Orrell rather than go off somewhere else.
I believe the Colts and Juniors are a major part of this club and a significant part of what keeps us a community club - so we must make sure you have reason to stay with us.
This club does have a future and you need to be part of it!
By the way - even now we don't have a ground so, at worse, next season will be no different. However - as Jon says - it will be a new start and we will, finally, be in control of our own future. So let's finish this season with a bang and look forward to the next with a new sense of optimism.

Are we going to have team when the south african boys go home? There is alot of talk about going totally amature which i think totally noncence and start from scratch, why? The club should be looking for new players now and starting a 2nd team this year and getting people back this year. Does the Chairman read the concerns fans etc are posting on here? Why don't we go public about weelhan?? There might be a chance that other people will help. For example, look at the Earth Titans (formely Wakefeild) now i can see them being promoted next year!

The trouble with the club is the selected memory.
First Whelan did not send us on our way to oblivion. It was the members who were in charge pre-Whelan. So why are people blaming him? look to yourselves?
The other main problem is the constant mantra "something is going on behind the scenes" I wish I had a £1 for every time I have heard or rather read this.
This is one of the reasons people are disillusioned as they can not feel part of a club which doesn't tell its fans/members what is going on. If everything had been conducted in the open for the last 20 years we would not be in the predicament we are in now, because the members would not have let us slide into so much debt.....,.It was the lack of communication from the old regime which was the downfall of the club and is still the downfall of the existing regime.....
One or two announcements a season from the management team is pathetic.
When your company is in trouble you review it daily and inform all stake holders (inc. fans).
This website sums it up.... there are a small few in the know who trot out the "something going on in the background" mantra and the rest who feel less like members/family and more like voyeurs who have to resort to message boards to gain any info at all......
No wonder fans have left in droves...... me included !!!!!!

in reply to mr scarecrow's comments, i could not agree with him more. as with all organisations, whatever line of business it is in, there will always be an inner sanctum, a maffia if you like, whereby nothing moves within that set up unless these people have dreamt it up, are in on it , or have sanctioned it. The feeling of control over others must be great.I remember being told, after questioning an executive decision that they were a democratically elected committee and you will abide by the decisions taken by them. End of.... this was at the height of the thatcher regime(dictatorship) when it was fashionable to have tailor made, smart arse answers to any question posed. Whelan. Don't lose sight of the fact that we all sold our share to whelan everyone queued up right round the club house getting their £1000 cheque. We are all as equally as guilty as to what happened next. We gave him our keys lock stock and barrel. He tried to run it his way, it didn't work, and this is where we are up to today.

What's all this "queuing round the clubhouse" business?I received my cheque in the post. Yes.Whelan, unquestionably, ran it his way and in the process broke almost every promise he had made at the outset. His, and let's not forget the odious Lindsay's, callous disregard for the history and tradition of RU in general and ORUFC in particular has been the forerunner of our present position. With Whelan's financial backing the club got within a whisker of the Premiership. Then when the realisation of what it was going to cost him to take the club that final step , although he must have known what was involved at the outset as he's nobody's fool, he decided to back off and since that day these two have put every obstacle possible in Orrell's way to ensure the demise of the club. So how you wish to dress up the situation, they are the plain facts.
