Prenton Junior Colts V Orrell Junior Colts 09/11/2008
The game was started with a minutes silence for remembrance Sunday which was respected by both sides. With Whitfield captain again and the weather atrocious Prenton won the toss and choose to kick up hill and into the wind in the first half so Orrell new they had to take advantage in the first half of the conditions and most of the first half was played in the Prenton half. Orrell,s first break came when Armstrong picked up a wayward ball and ran ¾ of the pitch on his own to place the ball under the sticks for Hughes to convert easily and it seemed like business as usually for Orrell,s top try scorer. Orrell were well in command of the game and the defence was excellent and when Davies picked up a perfectly weighted pass from Houghton and powered passed 4 Prenton players to score under the sticks to allow Hughes another easy conversion all seemed to be going to plan. Just on half time Prenton were awarded a 5 meter scrum which resulted in Prentons No 8 to slide in for a try.
Half time Prenton 5 Orrell 14
The second half started with Orrell under pressure right from the Kick off but the defence was resolute and held out for a good 20 minuites then a injury to Mcbride meant we had to shuffle the team slightly and play uncontested scrums and with Hornby returning to the team for his first game taking up position as scrum half his poor pass allowed Prenton in to score their first try of the second half which was converted. This seemed to inspire the Prenton team and never gave Orrell a chance to control the game and a spate of mistakes allowed Prenton to take control of the game and although the forwards defended well the backs just didn’t see enough of the ball to allow their speed to make a difference Amstrong spent more time tackling than running with the ball Prenton finally ran out winners.
Full Time Prenton 24 Orrell 14
Tries Armstrong 1 Davies 1
Conversions Hughes 2
